Professor Patrick Kennedy is a leading liver specialist, internationally recognised for pioneering work in viral liver disease, particularly chronic hepatitis B (CHB). He graduated from University College Dublin in 1996, then completed postgraduate training in London before being appointed Senior Lecturer at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2009.
Kennedy has authored over 100 peer-reviewed articles and multiple book chapters, with novel research that redefined disease phases in chronic hepatitis B and advanced personalised treatment strategies for viral liver diseases. His clinical expertise covers viral hepatitis, chronic liver disease, evaluation of abnormal liver enzymes and imaging, liver health assessment, and FibroScan diagnostics.
He is a Consultant Physician and Hepatologist at top London institutions, with a particular interest in liver disease management for young people and elite athletes, collaborating with premiership football clubs and sports teams. Kennedy is closely involved with clinical research, acting as Chief/Principal Investigator for numerous phase 1-3 trials of novel therapies for hepatitis B and delta virus. He is a passionate advocate for patient empowerment, having developed the HepB&Me management app to improve personalised care.
Professor Kennedy holds key advisory positions, including member of the WHO guideline group, EASL clinical guidelines committee, NICE guideline committee, and has chaired the British Viral Hepatitis Group. He regularly provides expert opinion for public health panels and the medical industry, shaping drug development and national viral hepatitis strategy.
