Dr Rakesh Sharma is a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Brompton Hospital, now part of Guy’s and St Thomas’, the largest specialist cardiac centre in the UK and amongst the largest in Europe. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College.

Dr Sharma qualified with triple honours from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 1995, being Proxime Accessit (runner up) to the University of London Gold Medal. He underwent postgraduate training at tertiary centres in London. Dr Sharma won a British Heart Foundation fellowship to study his PhD in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. For his research he was awarded the Young Investigator Prize at the American Heart Association.

Dr Rakesh Sharma is the cardiology lead for cardiac sarcoidosis at Royal Brompton Hospital and has specialist expertise in:

  • Heart Failure
  • Arrhythmias (heart rhythm disturbances)
  • Hypertension
  • Cardiac Sarcoidosis
  • Cardio-oncology

Dr Rakesh Sharma has an active research programme in heart failure and pacemakers. He is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles, including original papers, reviews, editorials, abstracts and book chapters as well as a regular speaker at national and international conferences. He has been a trusted colleague of Dr Savin for several years.
